A Study on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Army Nurses toward Family Planning

Abstract
|
|
|
The study was scheduled to find out the knowledge, attitude and practice of 420 army nurses toward family planning. A survey was carried out during the period of May 1-30, 1972.
The results obtained are as follows:
1. A majority of the army nurses (90.%) responded that they have some degree of knowledge on family planning. Thirty nine percent of the subjects possessed accurate knowledge on oral pill contraceptives and one third of them knew condom, vasectomy and tubaligation. Knowledge on I.U.D. was 26.4 percents. This 26.4 percents on I.U.D. was lower than 42.3 percents of ordinary house wives.
2. Thirty four percents of the army nurses obtained knowledge on family planning through massmedia, 25.9 percents read books or magazines and 11.9 percents of them learned during their training.
3. A half of the subjects hoped that the ideal age to get marry would be the age of 24 or 25.
4. Fourty six percents of the subject answered ideal number of children as two, 40.4 percents said three, an 11.3 percents wanted more than four.
5. Most of the subjects (94.9%) showed positive attitude toward contraceptive practice. Fifty five percents of those nurses expressed the reason for better education of owned children. Eighty percents of the entire group opposed against artificial abortion.
6. A quarter of the married nurses (21.7% of the total) adopted contraceptive method at present. Fourty five percents of those nurses were nsing condom and 27.3 percents took oral pills.
7. Ninety one percents of the subjects suggested a new course on family planning and population in their army nurses training.
